Dunia Taha
Stepping Stones Parent Support Coordinator
I entered the field of mental health after witnessing firsthand how stigma can prevent individuals and families from seeking the support they need, particularly within minority communities. Growing up, I saw the profound impact that mental health challenges can have not only on individuals, but also on the families and communities that surround them. These experiences sparked a deep commitment to creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported without fear of judgment.
They also shaped my belief that meaningful support is not about having all the answers, but about walking alongside people as they navigate their own unique journeys. I am passionate about helping individuals and families recognize their inherent strengths, honour their lived experiences, and feel empowered to move through challenges in ways that align with their values, goals, and aspirations.
I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Calgary and have spent nearly a decade supporting children, youth, and families across schools and community organizations. My approach is grounded in the belief that meaningful change begins with genuine connection, trust, and understanding. One of the principles that guides my work is that parents are the experts on their own children and circumstances. My role is to collaborate with families, helping them explore possibilities, build upon their strengths, and make informed decisions that reflect what matters most to them.
I am honoured to be joining the incredible team at the Parent Resource Centre and contributing to an organization dedicated to strengthening families and fostering connected communities. I look forward to supporting parents and caregivers across Ottawa as they navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and nurture the well-being of their families.
