Discipline for Young Children (under 6 years) 3 part workshop series

A series of Workshops for Home Child Care Providers (Parents welcome too)

September 22: When Consequences Don't Work. You have set Consequences for your child's misbehaviour and you carry them out but your child continues to misbehave. To be effective our discipline must deal with children's motives, then we will be able to guide them toward better ways to reach their goals.  In this workshop we will look at a few of the possible reasons why misbehaviour continues and we'll explore some practical solutions.
September 30: The Temperament Factor: Preventing Misbehaviour by Managing Intensity. Experts now recognize what parents have always known; children have individual characteristics right from birth.  Some children are more persistent, more sensitive, more intense than their peers.  Discipline techniques that work with other children often don't work with these kids.  You'll discover ways to prevent problems and make life easier at the same time learn the strengths that come with a "difficult" temperament.
October 6: Discipline That Looks for Solutions. In this workshop you will learn an approach to teaching children better behaviour by focusing on solutions to problems instead of on punishment.  When children get older this process encourages self-discipline because they start to participate in finding solutions.

If you can't make all three sessions, you may register for the workshops individually.

Baby-Wearing Latin Dance

Moms (and dads too!) get fit with their babies by learning fun steps to the rhythmic beats of Salsa and other Latin dances. This class is open to everyone, you don’t even need to know how to dance; the desire to share a special moment of music and movement with your child is all you need. Your baby will love being swayed while in direct contact with you! We recommend that your child be at least 6–8 weeks old, as well by that time a mother has normally recovered enough to begin exercising. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing that allows movement. Bring your own baby carrier to class.

Keeping Your Clients Attached

With the changing structure of child care in Ontario, it is increasingly important to keep our clients “attached”.  As home child care providers many of us will feel a greater need to have children “age” through our programs to comply with the legislated age-ratio requirements.   It also makes good business sense to encourage our clients to stay with us, as it prevents costly vacancies in our programs.  In this interactive workshop we will work together to develop strategies that build relationships and create client loyalty, keeping our clients attached, and our spaces filled! Join Cynthia Potschka on Thurs., Oct. 8th from 7-9 p.m. at CCPRN.
