Behaviour Management Strategies for the Child with Learning Disabilities or ADHD

The Learning Disabilities Association of Ottawa-Carleton is pleased to present When the Chips are Down: Behaviour Management Strategies for the Child with Learning Disabilities or ADHD with Richard Lavoie.

 

This 3-hour session will present dozens of field-tested behavior management techniques for use at home and in the classroom. These strategies are designed specifically for use with students with language and attentional deficits.
 

All of the techniques are presented within a context of support, structure and responsiveness. The philosophical underpinning of each strategy will also be presented.
 

About Richard Lavoie:

Rick Lavoie has served as an administrator of residential programs for children with special needs since 1972. He is the author of The Motivation Breakthrough: 6 Secrets to Turning On the Tuned-Out Child and It's So Much Work to Be Your Friend: Helping the Child with Learning Disabilities Find Social Success.

 

He holds three degrees in Special Education and has served as an adjunct professor or visiting lecturer at numerous universities including Syracuse, Harvard, Gallaudet, Manhattanville College, University of Alabama and Georgetown. Rick serves as a consultant on Learning Disabilities to several agencies and organizations including Public Broadcasting Service, New York Times, National Center for Learning Disabilities, Girl Scouts of America, Child Magazine and WETA. He is a member of the Professional Advisor Board of the Learning Disabilities Association of America.

We are a non-profit organization that gives new or gently used children’s books to Ottawa kids. Our “pop-up” storefront is at Heartwood House, 404 McArthur in the Overbrook/Vanier area. Every child (birth to 12 yrs old) who visits, and parents/caregievrs too, can take home one book of their choice for free, per visit. By facilitating book ownership among families with young children, we support school readiness and inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Baby and you will stretch and balance together in different yoga poses helping to support your postpartum healing and toning. Another activity will be some circle yoga as a group. The class is open for infants 6 weeks old to the creeping stage. Please dress comfortably and bring a blanket and toy for your baby. Know it is okay to have some interruptions during the class e.g. needing to feed your baby. Just go with the flow!
