In-Home Parent Support

Many individuals face barriers to accessing conventional family resources and parenting supports. The Parent Resource Centre’s In-Home Parent Support service is based on a detached outreach concept that aims to provide short-term, one-on-one parent education, resources, and support using teaching tools and interventions that are appropriate for the individual client in an environment where the client feels most comfortable.  This service may also act as a“transition” support for some families prior to directly linking the clients to on-going community supports and services such as those found at Ontario Early Years Centres and Community Health Centres.

In-Home Parent Support currently provides services to parents who are involved with, or at-risk of becoming involved with the Children’s Aid Society.  Services are available to parents with children between the ages of 0 and 18 years of age.

Support and advocacy are provided regarding:

  • Parenting stressors and supports
  • Child development and behaviour guidance
  • Positive parenting
  • Safety, nutrition and providing basic needs for children
  • Communicating with children
  • Referrals to community based parent-child resources and services
  • Working with the Children’s Aid Society
  • Mandated Parenting courses
  • And other relevant topics based on the clients’ needs
